Did you know?
Joseph Bannon Park: More Than Just a Park
If you’ve attended Movie in the Park, cooled off at the splash pad or spent time at the playground, chances are you’ve visited Joseph Bannon Park. Located in the heart of Emery Village, the park has become one of the community’s most popular gathering places for families and residents of all ages
But did you know the park is named after a local World War II veteran who dedicated much of his life to helping children?
After serving his country during the Second World War, Joseph Bannon and his wife opened their home to foster children, eventually caring for more than 100 young people over the years. His commitment to helping others and strengthening the community left a lasting impact on generations of families.
Today, the park that bears his name continues that spirit of community. With its splash pad, playground, open green space and community events, Joseph Bannon Park remains a place where families gather, children play and neighbours connect.
As residents enjoy Movie in the Park and other summer activities this season, it’s worth remembering the remarkable local resident whose legacy continues to be celebrated right here in Emery Village.
