Highlights from the Emery Village BIA Annual General Meeting
By Sean Delaney
The Emery Village BIA Annual General Meeting marked an important moment of reflection and forward planning for the district — bringing members, partners, and stakeholders together to review progress and set the tone for the year ahead.
With renewed momentum following the slower pandemic years, this year’s AGM focused not only on advocacy and communications, but on visible transformation projects residents and visitors will soon begin to see taking shape across the community.
Executive Director Sandra Farina opened the presentation with an overview of the BIA’s expanding communications platform. Social media engagement, digital storytelling, and promotional campaigns continue to broaden the reach of Emery Village businesses — ensuring local services, success stories, and events remain front and centre.
Her presentation highlighted how modern outreach tools are strengthening awareness while building stronger connections between the BIA and its membership base.
“Our focus remains on strengthening business visibility while building partnerships that move Emery Village forward.”
Advocacy remains a core pillar of the organization’s work. Through collaboration with municipal leaders, city divisions, and community partners, the BIA continues to advance improvements that benefit both businesses and the broader neighbourhood.
But the most visually exciting portion of the AGM came during the capital projects presentation delivered by Albert Gerrard. Several streetscape and infrastructure initiatives were introduced — each designed to enhance safety, beautification, and long-term economic vitality.
WESTON ROAD & TORYORK PARKETTEOne of the most anticipated projects is the proposed parkette at Weston Road and Toryork Drive. Designed as a welcoming gateway into Emery Village, the space will feature landscaped greenery, decorative lighting, seating, and pedestrian-friendly design elements.
The parkette will serve as both a visual landmark and a functional gathering space for employees, visitors, and residents alike.
WESTON ROAD & BRADSTOCK STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTSFurther corridor enhancements are planned at Weston Road and Bradstock Road, where streetscape upgrades will focus on pedestrian safety, beautification, and corridor identity.
These improvements are intended to strengthen the area’s role as a key employment and industrial gateway while improving the visual character of the streetscape.
ROAD 2A CORRIDOR ENHANCEMENTSPlanning is also underway along the Road 2A corridor, where infrastructure upgrades will incorporate landscaping, environmental features, and improved connectivity.
Design elements such as bioswales, greenery, and pedestrian pathways aim to modernize the corridor while supporting sustainable urban design.
“These projects represent long-term investment in Emery’s identity — creating spaces that support business while enhancing everyday community life.”
As these initiatives move from concept to construction, the impact will become increasingly visible across the district.
For residents, employees, and business owners alike, the message coming out of this year’s AGM was clear — Emery Village is entering a new phase of growth, investment, and community-focused transformation.
