Beat the heat Stay hydrated this summer

Hot summer days are one of the best parts of living in Ontario, but they can also increase the risk of dehydration, particularly for seniors, young children and those who spend time outdoors.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting until they feel thirsty before drinking water. Thirst is often one of the first signs that your body is already becoming dehydrated.

Common signs of dehydration include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth and dark-coloured urine. If you experience any of these symptoms, move to a cool location and drink water immediately.

Residents should also remember to check on elderly family members, friends and neighbours during periods of extreme heat.

A little extra water can go a long way toward helping everyone enjoy a safe and healthy summer.
