On December 17, the Carmine Stefano Seniors Art Class came together for a wonderful year-end luncheon — a celebration filled with laughter, friendship, and creativity. It was one of those warm community moments that truly reminds you why local connections matter so much.
The event, thoughtfully orchestrated by the amazing team led by Lucy Catania, featured delicious homemade food — some with delightful ethnic flair — music, and spirited singing. The room was alive with conversation as participants shared stories and enjoyed each other’s company. These gatherings are so important for our seniors, giving them a chance to get out, socialize, and nurture friendships in a setting built on camaraderie.
As I mentioned during my visit, the importance of community cannot be overstated. Loneliness can take a real toll, especially among older adults, but events like this bring joy, connection, and a sense of belonging. It was heartwarming to see so many smiling faces and to be reminded of all that these seniors have given to our community over the years — raising families, building neighbourhoods, and shaping the places we all call home.
MPP Tom Rakocevic also stopped by earlier in the day to offer holiday greetings — wishing everyone Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Feliz Navidad — adding to the festive spirit.
“Seeing our seniors engaged and joyful is a beautiful reminder of how important community truly is.”
The art class, now in its ninth or tenth year, has become a cherished weekly tradition. After a short holiday break, the group will resume painting on Wednesdays in January, continuing to build skills and friendships together.
It truly was an event that brought joy to the heart — a celebration of art, life, and the special bonds that make our community strong.
