Residents, commuters, and local businesses along Weston Road can expect to see meaningful improvements on the horizon, as Toronto City Council has approved a series of road safety and streetscape upgrades set to reshape the corridor in the coming years.
The work will focus on the Weston Road stretch between Finch Avenue West and Lanyard Road, a heavily travelled section that serves nearby neighbourhoods, businesses, transit riders, and community facilities throughout the Finch West area.
A key feature of the project is the installation of a new bi-directional cycle track running between Finch Avenue West and Lanyard Road. The dedicated cycling route is intended to provide a safer travel option for cyclists while strengthening connections to local transit, the Finch Hydro Corridor, and existing trails and cycling infrastructure nearby.
Beyond cycling, the initiative includes a range of streetscape and road safety improvements designed to enhance the overall look and function of the roadway. Planned upgrades feature added greenery and landscaping, redesigned intersections, improvements to transit stops, and accessibility enhancements aimed at creating a safer, more welcoming environment for pedestrians and transit users alike.
City officials say the improvements align with Toronto’s Vision Zero Road Safety Plan, which focuses on reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities, as well as the broader TransformTO Net Zero Climate Action Strategy, supporting greener and more sustainable transportation options.
For drivers, the City has confirmed that no vehicular travel lanes will be removed as part of the redesign — an important detail for those who rely on Weston Road as a key north-south commuting route.
Construction will be coordinated with planned road resurfacing scheduled for 2026, allowing the upgrades to be completed efficiently while limiting additional disruption.
As the project moves closer to implementation, residents and businesses along the Finch West to Lanyard corridor are encouraged to keep an eye out for notices, timelines, and early preparatory work.
With safety, mobility, and streetscape enhancements all part of the plan, Weston Road is poised to see positive, long-term improvements designed to benefit the entire community.
