Spring Forward: A season on the horizon

By Sean Delaney

As winter begins to loosen its grip, March signals the gradual transition toward spring — a season long associated with renewal, growth, and longer days. The name “March” traces back to the Roman calendar and was named after Mars, the god of war, as it marked the start of the military campaign season and the beginning of a new year in ancient Rome.

One of the most noticeable seasonal changes is the return of Daylight Saving Time. In 2026, clocks spring forward one hour on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 a.m., bringing brighter evenings and a welcome extension of daylight after work and school.

While the weather can still be unpredictable, March often brings the first hints of seasonal change — melting snow, migrating birds, and communities preparing for the warmer months ahead. It’s a time that signals fresh starts for homes, businesses, and neighbourhoods alike.
