St. Patrick’s Day fun comes to Emery Village

By Sean Delaney

March wouldn’t feel complete without a little green in the air, and St. Patrick’s Day — celebrated each year on March 17 — gives us all a chance to shake off the winter blues and have a bit of fun.

While the day honours Ireland’s patron saint and the country’s rich cultural roots, it has grown into a celebration enjoyed by people of all backgrounds. Here in Emery Village, it’s less about where you’re from and more about joining in the community spirit.

Local dollar stores, including Dollar Tree on Bradstock Road and Weston Road, are already stocked with festive decorations — shamrocks, hats, beads, and plenty of green accessories for families, schools, and workplaces looking to dress the part.

Neighbourhood pubs and restaurants will also be marking the occasion with themed menus, Irish music, and festive refreshments. Even venues without Irish roots often lean into the celebration, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere across the community.

For those looking to connect with Irish culture in a quieter way, Woodview Park Library is hosting St. Patrick’s Day Crafts and Fun on Tuesday, March 17 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. for children ages 6–12. Branch Manager Diana Rothbauer has also put together a selection of Irish-themed books and music for residents wishing to explore Ireland’s stories, traditions, and heritage.

Whether it’s wearing green, supporting a local establishment, or spending time at the library, St. Patrick’s Day in Emery Village is another reminder that community celebrations — big or small — help bring neighbours together.
